Low2HighDH Consortium Visits Rydułtowy District Heating Plant in Poland

16 October 2025 – Rydułtowy, Poland

The Low2HighDH consortium gathered in Katowice on 15 October 2025 for our project meeting, bringing together all the project partners. During Day 2 of the meeting, on 16 October, we had the privilege of visiting Rydułtowy Sp. z o.o. Ciepłownia, one of our key pilot sites in Poland. This visit offered an invaluable opportunity to see firsthand the modernization of high-temperature district heating systems and the integration of low-temperature and renewable-based solutions.

Heating Plant Tour

The visit began with a warm welcome by Mr Sławomir Kwiatoń, Director of Rydułtowy Ciepłownia and the plant’s management team, who guided us through the facility’s gas, biomass, and coal boiler installations. During the tour, the consortium members gained a detailed understanding of the plant’s current operations, ongoing modernization efforts and plans to improve energy efficiency while incorporating sustainable heat sources.

Meeting Key Stakeholders

We were honored to meet Mr Marcin Połomski, Mayor of Rydułtowy, alongside representatives from local housing associations and industry experts. The meeting provided a unique platform for exchanging presentations and ideas:

  • The plant’s management team shared insights into the facility’s modernization roadmap.
  • The Low2HighDH team presented the project’s objectives, upcoming activities, and expected impact on the transition to sustainable district heating systems.

Engaging with the Local Community

An important highlight of the day was the discussion with housing association representatives about community engagement. These exchanges emphasized the critical role of local stakeholders in supporting the shift toward low-carbon and efficient heating systems, demonstrating the importance of collaboration between municipal authorities, energy providers, and citizens.

We extend our sincere thanks to Rydułtowy Sp. z o.o. Ciepłownia for the warm hospitality and for sharing such a detailed overview of their operations. The visit reinforced the Low2HighDH project’s commitment to accelerating the adoption of innovative, efficient, and sustainable district heating technologies across Poland, Lithuania, and Slovakia.

By showcasing how pilot sites like Rydułtowy can unlock low-grade and waste heat potential, the project continues to pave the way for reduced fossil fuel use, lower CO₂ emissions, and climate-neutral heating solutions.
